On December 16, 2020, at the Japan ASEAN Smart City Network High-Level Conference hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, the delegation of Major Dildi, Makassar City, Indonesia and Mr. Fukaya, Chief Digital Advisor of JTEC signed a memorandum on cooperation in the smart transport and logistics fields.
Prior to this, JTEC has been a member of JASCA, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and has participated in smart city promotion for the Makassar city.
In February 2020, we attended the first local meeting in the city and introduced examples of Japan. In July of the same year, we participated in an on-line meeting and proposed solutions in the transportation and logistics fields with Kyocera Communication Systems Co., Ltd. (KCCS). The vice-mayor pointed out issues in the transport and logistics fields. Considering these issues, we proposed Kalla transport logistics, which operates freight transport services based in McSaru City, and a project to alleviate traffic congestion around ports for Pelindo IV (public enterprise) that operates ports in East Indonesia.
Because of the need for further leadership in the Makassar city in the summarization of port stakeholders with complex stakes, the Japanese ASEAN Smart City Network High-Level Meeting signed a memo and decided to confirm continued collaboration in the future.
As JASCA members, JTEC is steadily promoting smart city projects in ASEAN while exchanging information with the support of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, local embassies, JICA, JETRO, and other governmental organizations. In an environment where local interaction is not possible due to the Corona disaster, we continue to explore local needs and conduct research activities online.
