JTEC supports the investigation and dissemination of telemedicine services in developing countries and the international deployment of Japanese medical technologies, services and infrastructures.

[India]

In fiscal 2018, we utilized JKA's grant to investigate successful cases of remote medical care in the rural areas of India. We confirmed that remote medical care can contribute to delivering medical services to rural areas and improving the capacity of medical staff while limited medical resources are available.

The following three points should be noted.
(1)Landscape and vertical telemedicine (consultation and education among healthcare workers)
"Horizontal" is a linkage network between seven Priority Telemedicine Universities and between 150 medical universities nationwide.
The "Vertical" is a video conference between medical universities in various locations and the Prefectural Clinic and the Community Health Center.

(2)Labor-saving maternal and child health application through CSR activities of medical NGOs and IT companies
Village health workers through national measures are supported by IT by combinations of medical NGOs and IT companies to provide effective and efficient medical services through limited physician operations. Starting with a pilot of 45000 rural citizens, the project has been developed for all Gujarat states (45 million people) with high reputation.

(3)Telemedicine Applications Development Centre (C-DAC: Related Organizations of the Information Technology Bureau of the Department of Information and Communications)
Developed inter-physician consultation system (eSanjeevani), etc. Developed in developing countries such as Japan and Asia.
①Features include physicians' speech recognition and text automatic input functions, and ② the ability to incorporate data from peripheral instruments, such as OXYGEN levels and BP, via inexpensive conversion boxes (so that they can be introduced in developing countries).

[Myanmar]
◆In 2017, the optical submarine cable was connected to Myanmar, and JTEC began supporting the dissemination of telemedicine education.

In 2019, Kyushu University supported the "Human Resource Development Program Aiming at Equitizing Medical Levels in Myanmar" by utilizing the scheme of the International Institute for Medical Development (NCGM) project to support international expansion of medical technology, etc. Supporting training of physicians and IT engineers through training in Japan, local training, and remote training.

In 2020, support was provided for Kyushu University's on-line implementation of the Human Resource Development Project aimed at achieving the equalization of healthcare standards in Myanmar under NCGM Project. We have made significant advances in the development of telemedicine education online.

In the future, JTEC will utilize a variety of grant schemes to contribute to the spread of remote medical care, including remote medical education and medical services in developing countries (cities and rural areas) and remote health support services to help prevent lifestyle-related problems using ICTs.
